Meet Moxie

Our youngest Jersey and a glimpse into the future of our homestead.
This winter day in Maine captures Moxie exactly as she is right now
soft nose dusted with snow, little hooves standing curious and steady in the cold, her tail flicking as she takes it all in. At just 3–4 months old, Moxie is still very much a calf, but she already carries herself with the quiet confidence that Jerseys are known for.
Moxie is a Jersey cow, a breed cherished for its gentle temperament and rich, nourishing milk. One day, she will be part of our milking herd, providing for our family and community just as generations of dairy cows have done before her. And someday beyond that, she’ll have a calf of her own standing right alongside her continuing the natural rhythm of life on the farm.
Despite the cold, Moxie handles Maine winters with grace. Her thick winter coat, warm bedding, and access to the barn at all times allow her to thrive even when the snow blankets the ground. You’ll often find her alternating between exploring the yard and retreating to the barn, where she snuggles deep into warm hay.
Moxie represents more than just a future milker. She represents patience, stewardship, and long-term commitment. Raising a dairy cow takes years before the first drop of milk is ever shared, and we believe that care begins long before production. It begins with trust, gentleness, and honoring the life entrusted to us.
These photos are just one moment in her story but it’s a reminder that every season, every stage, and every animal here has purpose. And we’re grateful to walk alongside Moxie as stewards and friends.
