Bourbon Red Turkeys

If you've visited our farm, you've probably spotted our beautiful Bourbon Red turkeys strutting around the pasture. Known for their striking deep-red feathers and calm personalities, Bourbon Reds are a heritage breed we are proud to raise.

We chose this breed not only for their beauty but also for their historical significance and exceptional flavor. Bourbon Reds were first developed in Kentucky in the late 1800s and are prized for their rich, tender meat far superior to what you'll find in a grocery store bird. Because they are a heritage breed, our turkeys grow at a natural pace, developing strong, healthy bodies with excellent flavor and texture.

Our Bourbon Reds are free-ranged, allowing them to forage on pasture, which contributes to their overall well-being and the nutrient density of their meat. They thrive on a diverse diet of grass, insects, and supplemental grains, and they are never given antibiotics or growth hormones.

We believe in stewarding these birds with care and respect, preserving a breed that was once nearly lost to history. When you purchase a Bourbon Red from our farm, you're not only getting a high-quality product you’re supporting sustainable, small-scale agriculture and helping to preserve a piece of American farming heritage.

Our Flock

Our Chicken flock is a colorful, mixed-up crew made up of birds we’ve chosen primarily for purpose: strong egg layers, dual-purpose breeds for both meat and eggs, and hardy genetics that thrive on our farm. We believe in raising birds that work for the homestead, not just look pretty in a picture.

That said… over the years, we may have accidentally built up a separate little Bantam & Small Breed Coop just because we couldn’t resist their charm and personalities. Now they’ve got their own space to rule small in size, big in sass!

This year’s flock includes:
Austra lorps
Buff Orpingtons

 Ameraucanas
Cochins
Black Copper Marans

Polish (our crazy-haired comedians)
Naked Necks (truly “ugly ducklings” of the chicken world!)
Bantams and a few assorted small breeds that always seem to multiply somehow…

While we value utility first, we’ve learned that a farm isn’t complete without a few misfits. And when you see the rainbow eggs in our basket, or a scrappy Naked Neck chasing bugs across the pasture, you’ll understand why we let this oddball flock steal our hearts.
